Royal Free London's new electronic patient record

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

The Royal Free London have announced they will be launching a new electronic patient record (EPR) which will replace paper records by the end of 2020. Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital and the maternity and emergency departments at the Royal Free Hospital will start using EPR this November with the rest of Royal Free London following in 2019.

The new system will allow staff to input and access patient information including test results and details of their care quickly via computers or laptops. It will also include a patient portal where patients will be able to view their medical history, test results and upcoming appointments.

The EPR is part of the Royal Free London's ambition to become the most digitally advanced trust in the NHS by 2020. Other new digital technologies include apps to help monitor conditions, electronic documents, mobile nurse call systems and voice recognition for dictating patient notes.
